Wakeboard Size Guide
What size wakeboard do I need? Boat, cable and kids' charts by weight
By Chris O'Shea and Anna Nikstad, Welcome Board Store, Mornington Peninsula
"What size wakeboard do I need?" is the question we answer more than any other in the shop. The good news is that it has a simple starting point: your weight. This guide gives you that number in kilograms, then walks through the things that nudge it up or down: boat or cable, your ability, rocker, sharing the board, and sizing for kids. Every chart below has been checked against the official Ronix, Liquid Force and Hyperlite size charts.
Quick answer: Size a wakeboard by your weight, not your height. Most adults riding behind a boat land between 134 and 146 cm. Cable park boards run a few centimetres longer for the same rider. If you're between two sizes and still learning, go longer. Then check the chart for the exact board you're buying, because every model has its own weight ranges.
Wakeboard size chart by rider weight (kg)
This is the general chart Liquid Force publish for boat and park (cable) boards, which lines up closely with Ronix and Hyperlite's model charts. Use it to find your ballpark, then check the model.
| Rider weight | Boat wakeboard | Cable / park wakeboard |
|---|---|---|
| 11-32 kg | 111-118 cm | 116-125 cm |
| 18-39 kg | 118-130 cm | 125-135 cm |
| 32-59 kg | 130-138 cm | 135-143 cm |
| 45-77 kg | 134-142 cm | 138-148 cm |
| 68-102 kg | 138-146 cm | 142-150 cm |
| 77-113 kg | 142-146 cm | 146-155 cm |
| 91 kg and up | 146 cm and up | 148 cm and up |
The ranges overlap on purpose. Two riders of the same weight can happily ride different lengths depending on how they ride, which is what the rest of this guide sorts out.
Why weight, not height?
A wakeboard has to hold you up on the surface. The heavier you are, the more surface area you need to get up out of the water, stay on top of it and land softly. A board that's too short for your weight sits low, feels slow and makes starts hard work. A board that's too long for your weight feels big and slow to turn. Height doesn't change how much board you need to float.
Height does matter a little for your stance. Each board size has a stance range. On the Ronix Vault, for example, Ronix list 19-25 inches on the 130 cm and 22-28 inches on the 145 cm. If you're tall for your weight and like a wide stance, the longer of your two options will usually feel more natural.
Boat vs cable: why cable boards run longer
Where you ride changes the length you buy, and the type of board you buy.
- Boat boards usually have fins, channels and a stiffer build for carving into the wake and popping off it. Boat speed gives you plenty of lift, so you can ride a slightly shorter board for quicker edging and spins.
- Cable (park) boards are built tougher underneath for boxes, rails and kickers, are usually softer flexing and often run without fins. Cable systems generally pull slower than a boat, so a longer board gives you more float, more stability on features and softer landings.
Here's what that looks like for one rider. Say you weigh 75 kg:
| Board type | Example board we stock | Size that fits 75 kg on the brand chart |
|---|---|---|
| Boat, entry level | Ronix Vault | 140 cm (66-84 kg) |
| Boat, intermediate | Ronix District | 134 cm (up to 75 kg) or 138 cm (66-86 kg) |
| Cable, park | Ronix Utopia | 147 cm (up to 79 kg) |
| Cable, park | Ronix Kinetik Project | 150 cm (64-86 kg) |
Same rider, roughly 7 to 10 cm more board at the cable. Hyperlite's published spec sheet shows the same pattern: their men's boat boards run from 130 to 154 cm, while their men's cable boards run from 134 to 157 cm.
Riding both? Buy for where you'll spend most of your time. A boat board can be ridden at the cable with the fins out (stay off the features), but a finless park board won't track or pop properly behind a boat. If you're unsure, our beginner wakeboard guide covers the boat vs cable decision in more detail.

Between sizes? How to choose
Most riders fall into two sizes on at least one chart. Here's how we break the tie in the shop.
Go longer if:
- You're learning or still getting up consistently. A longer board sits higher, gets up more easily and forgives a messy landing.
- You ride behind a smaller boat or a boat without much ballast, where you'll want extra float.
- You mostly ride the cable, or you want softer landings and more stability.
- The board will be shared (see below).
Go shorter if:
- You're an experienced rider who wants a quicker, looser feel and easier spins.
- You're at the very bottom of the longer board's range and the top of the shorter one, and you ride on your own.
The way we put it on our product pages: shorter spins easier, longer lands softer and holds more speed.
Does rocker change what size I need?
Not really. Rocker is the curve of the board from tip to tail, and it changes how the board feels, not how much board you need. Pick your length from your weight first, then choose the rocker for the way you ride:
- Continuous rocker (one smooth curve, like the Parks or RXT) carries speed into the wake and gives a smooth, predictable take-off and landing.
- 3-stage rocker (flatter middle with more kick at the tips, like the Vault, Krush and One) gives a more vertical pop off the wake.
- Hybrid rocker (a blend, like the District, Quarter 'Til Midnight and Supreme) feels continuous when you approach on a hard edge and more like a 3-stage when you ride in flatter.
Because the length chart is model specific, two boards with different rockers can list different sizes for the same weight. That's another reason to check the chart for the exact board. Want rocker explained properly? Our beginner wakeboard guide goes deeper.
Kids' wakeboard sizes
Kids are sized by weight too, and the most common mistake we see is buying a big board for them to grow into. A board that's too long is heavy to steer and hard for a small rider to control. Here's how the current Ronix kids' range steps up:
| Board | Size | Rider weight (official chart) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ronix Vision / Ronix August | 120 cm | Up to about 36 kg | First board for younger kids |
| Ronix Junior Vault / Junior Krush | 125 cm | Up to 50 kg | Bigger kids learning and progressing |
| Ronix Junior District | 129 cm | Up to 57 kg | Kids who are already riding well |
| Ronix Vault / Krush | 130 cm | Up to 57 kg | Teens moving to an adult board |
A few kids' tips from us:
- Size for now, not for three summers away. If they're near the top of a range, the next size up is fine, but don't jump two sizes.
- Pair it with a soft, adjustable kids' boot like the Ronix Vision kids' boot or August kids' boot, which cover a range of foot sizes as they grow.
- A properly fitted vest is non-negotiable. In Victoria, anyone being towed must wear a lifejacket. See our kids' vests.

Women's wakeboard sizes
Women's boards are sized by weight in exactly the same way. The difference is in the build. Ronix, for example, give each length of the Krush and Quarter 'Til Midnight its own layup, rather than shrinking a men's board, and the sizes are spread across lighter weight ranges. Lighter riders can ride a men's or unisex board too, as long as the weight range fits. See all our women's wakeboards.
Sizing a board that will be shared
Family board, or one board for the whole crew on the boat? Size it for the heaviest rider who'll use it regularly. A lighter rider on a slightly long board will still get up and ride fine. A heavier rider on a short board will struggle. Pair a shared board with an open-toe boot that covers a range of foot sizes, such as the Ronix Divide, which comes in three size ranges. Our wakeboard bindings and boots guide covers boot sizing in full.
Wakesurf boards are sized differently
If you're shopping for a wakesurfer rather than a wakeboard, this chart doesn't apply. Wakesurf boards are sized by rider weight and the board's style and volume, and are measured in feet and inches. Liquid Force's chart, for example, puts a 45-77 kg rider on a surf-style wakesurfer of roughly 4'2" to 4'9". We'll cover wakesurf sizing in its own guide.
Wakeboard size FAQs
What size wakeboard do I need for my weight?
Most adults riding behind a boat need between 134 and 146 cm. As a guide from Liquid Force's chart, 45-77 kg riders suit about 134-142 cm, and 68-102 kg riders suit about 138-146 cm. Always check the chart for the exact board, because ranges vary between models.
Does height matter when choosing a wakeboard size?
Weight matters far more than height. Height mainly affects your stance width. If you're tall for your weight and like a wide stance, the longer of your two size options will usually feel better.
Should I size up or down if I'm between wakeboard sizes?
If you're learning, riding behind a smaller boat, riding the cable or sharing the board, size up. If you're an experienced rider who wants quicker spins and a looser feel, you can size down.
Should a cable wakeboard be longer than a boat wakeboard?
Yes. For the same rider, cable boards usually run a few centimetres longer, often around 4 to 10 cm, because cable systems pull slower and a longer board gives more float, stability on features and softer landings.
What size wakeboard does my child need?
Size kids by weight. On Ronix's current charts, the 120 cm Vision and August suit kids up to about 36 kg, the 125 cm Junior Vault and Junior Krush suit riders up to 50 kg, and the 129 cm Junior District suits riders up to 57 kg. Don't buy a board two sizes too big to grow into.
Can two people share one wakeboard?
Yes. Size the board for the heaviest person who will ride it regularly, and pair it with an open-toe boot that adjusts across a range of foot sizes.
Do women's wakeboards use a different size chart?
They're sized by weight in the same way, but the sizes cover lighter weight ranges and the boards are built for lighter riders. A woman can ride a men's or unisex board too if her weight fits its chart.
Does rocker change what size wakeboard I need?
Not directly. Choose your length by weight, then pick continuous, 3-stage or hybrid rocker for how you ride. Because each model has its own chart, always check the specific board's size range.
