FAQ's

Do your life jackets meet Australian standards?

All our L50 and L50S life jackets meet Australian Standard AS4758, ensuring you stay legal and safe on Victorian and NSW waterways.

What is the difference between L50 and L50S life jackets?

In Australia, both are rated for the same buoyancy, but the difference is visibility. Level 50 (L50) jackets must be high-visibility (bright colors) and are required for partially smooth waters and personal watercraft (PWC) in many states. Level 50S (L50S) vests are "Special Purpose" and can be any color or style. They are the most popular choice for wakeboarding and skiing in smooth waters (rivers and lakes) because they offer more style and flexibility.

Is an impact vest the same as a life jacket?

No. An impact vest is designed primarily to protect your ribs and spine from hard falls at high speeds. While they offer some flotation, many are "non-buoyant" and do not meet Australian Standards (AS4758) for use as a primary life jacket on a boat. If you are riding behind a boat in Australia, you generally must wear a certified L50 or L50S vest to remain compliant with maritime laws.

What life jacket do I need for wakeboarding in Victoria?

On Victorian inland and enclosed waters (like the Murray River or Port Phillip Bay), anyone being towed must wear a life jacket that meets AS4758 standards. For wakeboarding, a Level 50 or 50S neoprene vest is the standard choice as it provides the perfect balance of flotation and freedom of movement. Always check the current Marine Safety Victoria regulations before heading out.
