Quad fins change the way a surfboard moves under your feet — more speed down the line, a looser feel through turns, and that extra drive when you need to generate momentum on flatter sections. Whether you're riding a fish, a step-up, or a high-performance shortboard, the right quad setup can completely transform how your board responds to the wave.

At Welcome Boardstore we stock quad fin sets from FCS and Futures — two of the most trusted names in surfboard fins — so you're getting gear that's been shaped, tested, and refined by some of the best surfers in the world. From the FCS II Performer Neo Glass Quad, built with 50% glass and bio-resin for a balanced all-round feel, to the Futures F6 and F8 Legacy Quads with their honeycomb construction and neutral templates, there's a setup here for every surfer and every break.

If you're after something more specialised, the Futures EA Control Series Quad — designed by Eric Arakawa — brings solid fibreglass construction and a unique foil built for critical conditions, while the FCS II H4 Quad Rear Set delivers Swiss-engineered precision and enhanced foils that grip longer through turns. For longboarders and mid-length riders, the FCS II Carver Side Bytes add serious hold and carving ability to any 2+1 setup.

We're based in Australia and ship across the country, with customers regularly picking up fins from our store to use at Melbourne's beach breaks — from Torquay and Bells Beach down the Great Ocean Road — as well as Sydney's iconic surf spots like Manly, Cronulla, and Maroubra. Whether you're chasing long point break walls or punchy beach break barrels, we can help you find the quad setup that suits your surfing.

FAQ's

What's the difference between a quad and a thruster setup?

A quad setup uses four fins — two larger side fins and two smaller rear fins — instead of the three-fin thruster configuration. Quads generally produce more speed and a looser, skatier feel through turns because there's no centre fin creating drag. Thrusters tend to offer more pivot and control in critical sections. Many surfers choose quads for smaller, faster waves or when they want to generate speed on flatter days, while thrusters shine in more powerful, hollow surf.

Are FCS II and Futures fins compatible with each other?

No — FCS II and Futures use different fin box systems and are not interchangeable. FCS II uses a tool-less click-in system, while Futures fins are glassed into a single-tab box with a screw. Before buying, check which fin system your board is set up for. If you're unsure, look at the fin boxes on your board or get in touch with us and we'll help you figure it out.

How do I choose the right quad fin size?

Fin size is primarily based on your body weight and your surfing style. As a general guide, lighter surfers (under 65kg) typically suit a small or medium set, surfers between 65–85kg usually go for a medium, and heavier surfers or those who like to push hard against their fins often prefer a large. The Futures F6 Legacy Quad is rated for surfers up to around 88kg, while the F8 is designed for 80kg and above. If you're between sizes, consider your surfing style — a more aggressive, powerful surfer often benefits from going up a size.

Can I use quad rear fins with a 5-fin board?

Yes — 5-fin boards are designed to be ridden as either a thruster or a quad, giving you flexibility depending on the conditions. Sets like the Futures F6 and F8 Legacy 5-Fin include both front and rear fins so you can switch between setups. On a 5-fin board, running a quad means leaving the centre box empty and using the two side fin boxes plus the two rear quad boxes.
