About This Product

2027 Hyperlite SoS Wakesurfer | Surf or Skate, Pronounced Sauce

The 2027 Hyperlite SoS — pronounced sauce — is new for 2027 and the most experimental shape in the wakesurf line. Hyperlite built it to deliver a skate feel on water: a skim board with a wider nose and tail, a skinnier straight-edged belly and a flatter nose rocker, so you can ride a shorter board and still recover from a landing that would spit you off a conventional skim shape.

Key Technical Features

  • Carbon PVC Construction: The same full carbon over a PVC core used on the Raven. It is what keeps a board this short lively rather than dead underfoot.
  • Blunt Tip & Tail: Squared-off at both ends. Surface area sits right out at the extremities, which is where the recoverability comes from when you land off-centre.
  • Straight-Edged Belly: A skinnier belly with straight edges through the middle of the board. It holds a line under a flat, skatey base and keeps the release predictable.
  • Flatter Nose Rocker: Less lift in the nose than a conventional skim board. Speed first, and a large part of why the SoS feels like a skate deck underfoot.
  • Raised Concave Track Pad: A raised, concave traction pad rather than a flat one. Your back foot locates itself, which matters on a board designed to be pivoted and spun.
  • Fins: 1.25" Solo Skim Fin (1): One low-profile skim fin. Just enough tracking to set up a trick, not enough to stop the tail letting go.

Why You'll Love It

Hyperlite's SKILL bar runs the SoS from about a quarter of the way along to the expert end, so this is an improver-and-up board rather than a first surfer. It rewards riders who already understand where the pocket is and want to start throwing shuvits and reverts at it. The Push Meter reads 3/4 and the wave size is XLG, so it needs a big, well-formed wake. Who it isn't for: anyone still learning to hold position without the rope. For that, start on a Hi-Fi. Riders chasing podium-level skim should look at the Raven instead.

One size for 2027, 4'2". Hyperlite publishes no volume, width or rider-weight table for the SoS in the dealer book and there is no product page for it on hyperlite.com, so we have nothing verifiable to quote. Send us your weight before you commit and we will tell you honestly whether it suits you.

Quick Answers

What does SoS actually stand for?
Surf or Skate, and it is pronounced sauce. Hyperlite's argument is that the shape blends the recoverability of a surf outline with the loose, pivoting feel of a skate deck, which is why the tips are blunt and the belly is straight-edged.

Is it a skim board?
Yes. Single skim fin, flat base, thin rails. It slides and spins rather than driving down the line. Surf-style riders after drive and hold want the Moab, the Frother or the Lobo.

Why would I ride something this short?
Because a shorter board rotates faster and needs less wave to work with. The trade-off is stability, which is why Hyperlite starts the SoS well up its skill scale.

About Hyperlite

Hyperlite changed wakeboarding forever in 1991 when it built the world's first compression-molded wakeboard — and it's driven the sport's innovation ever since, from Biolite cores to the 0-G boot platform.

Today the range spans wakeboards, wakesurfers and boots, built for everyone from first-timers to the pros. It's the brand that wrote the rulebook, and keeps rewriting it.
