About This Product

2027 Hyperlite Shift Wakesurfer | True Skim Shape, Handcrafted Epoxy

The 2027 Hyperlite Shift is a true skim-style shape at the most approachable price in the skim range. A wider tail drives the acceleration and a blunt tip and tail profile keeps it tracking when you land and ride away switch. Handcrafted epoxy over an EPS core with a wood stringer gives it a responsive, snappy feel without the carbon price tag.

Key Technical Features

  • Handcrafted Epoxy Construction: Hand-laid epoxy rather than a moulded shell. It is what gives the Shift its snap, and why it feels closer to a carbon skim board than its price suggests.
  • EPS Core with Wood Stringer: A light, buoyant core with a wood stringer down its length. Float keeps a thin skim board on top of the water, the stringer stops it feeling soft when you load the rail.
  • Minimal Rocker / Flat Base: Almost no curve underfoot. Free speed, and the flat, skatey feel that defines skim riding. It is also why the board accelerates the moment you shift weight to the tail.
  • Wide Tail, Blunt Tip & Tail: Surface area right at both ends for acceleration, and a squared outline that tracks true when you are riding switch — the shape detail that makes reverts realistic.
  • Fins: 1.25" Solo Skim Fin (1): One low-profile skim fin. Just enough tracking to line a trick up, little enough that the tail releases the instant you ask.

Why You'll Love It

Hyperlite's SKILL bar runs the Shift from the beginner end to about 55%, so it is a beginner-to-intermediate skim board with a bit more ceiling than the Hi-Fi. The Push Meter is full at 4/4 and the wave size is rated XLG, which is the honest catch: it is the cheapest skim board here but it still wants a big, well-weighted wake. Who it isn't for: anyone on a modest wave, who should be looking at a surf-style Broadcast or Landlock instead. Advanced skim riders want the Storm or the Raven.

Size Guide

  • 3'9": Hyperlite rates riders up to 77 kg
  • 4'2": Hyperlite rates riders up to 91 kg
  • 4'7": Hyperlite rates riders up to 104 kg

Three lengths. Rocker is 2.28" tip and 0.33" tail across all of them. Hyperlite publishes no volume table for the Shift, and the volume and width figures on its own website are internally inconsistent — the largest size is listed as narrower and lower volume than the middle one — so we will not quote them.

Quick Answers

Skim or surf?
Skim, and a true one. Hyperlite's own words. One small skim fin, a flat base and a wide blunt tail mean it slides, spins and rides switch. If you want a board that drives down the line, look at the Frother, Lobo or Moab.

Shift or Storm?
Construction and price. The Storm is Woven Carbon over a Nova Core; the Shift is handcrafted epoxy over EPS and costs considerably less. Hyperlite prints nearly identical copy for the two but rates the Storm far higher for pop and carve.

What wave does it need?
A good one, unfortunately. Rated XLG on wave size with a full 4/4 push. Being the most affordable skim board in the range does not make it the least demanding of your boat. If the wake is modest, buy surf-style.

About Hyperlite

Hyperlite changed wakeboarding forever in 1991 when it built the world's first compression-molded wakeboard — and it's driven the sport's innovation ever since, from Biolite cores to the 0-G boot platform.

Today the range spans wakeboards, wakesurfers and boots, built for everyone from first-timers to the pros. It's the brand that wrote the rulebook, and keeps rewriting it.
