The 2027 Hyperlite Murray Jr. is Shaun Murray's shape scaled down for kids, drawn by shaper Greg Nelson. It is a progression board rather than a first board: a Subtle 3-Stage Rocker for real lift off the wake, and Variable Edge Design that sharpens the rail underfoot for grip and cups it at the tips so a bad landing rolls through instead of catching.

Key Technical Features

• Subtle 3-Stage Rocker: A staged rocker with the dead flat spot taken out. A light rider gets a genuine boost off the wake without the board going lifeless between them.
• Variable Edge Design: The rail sharpens underfoot and cups at tip and tail. Aggressive where a kid needs edge hold, forgiving where they need a second chance.
• Biolite 3 Core and Minimum Swing Weight Profile: A light PU and fibreglass core with mass pulled out of the ends, so spins and flips start easily. At this age that is most of the confidence.
• Moulded Landing Feature: Built into the base to take the sting out of a flat landing, which is what most of them will be for a season or two.
• Fins: .8" P-Wing (4): Four 0.8 inch P-Wing fins, the same fin the adult Murray Pro runs, so it tracks the first time they set a hard edge.

Why You'll Love It

Hyperlite's own skill bar runs the Murray Jr. from 10 per cent of the scale to 90, with speed high and pop just above the middle. The catalogue promises a huge boost; the slider says mid-range, and we would rather you had the slider. Read it as a fast, forgiving board with a long life in it. Who it isn't for: a genuine first-timer gets there quicker on the State Jr. or Motive Jr., which start at zero on that same scale. Past about 59 kg they have outgrown the 127.

Size Guide

• 120 cm: riders up to 50 kg · 2.3" rocker · 695 sq in · 16.25" wide
• 127 cm: riders 41-59 kg · 2.5" rocker · 735 sq in · 16.5" wide

The two published weight ranges overlap, so take the 120 for a smaller or newer rider and the 127 once they are clearing the wake. Board only, four fins included, bindings sold separately on M6 inserts. Hyperlite pairs it with the Remix Junior.

Quick Answers

Murray Jr. or Murray Jr. Girls?
Flex and graphic. The Girls version adds Satin Flex, tuned softer for a lighter rider. Same shape, rocker, edge design, sizes and published rider weights, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Murray Jr. or State Jr.?
Level. The State Jr. is an asymmetrical beginner shape at 125 cm for a kid still learning to hold a toe-side edge. The Murray Jr. starts where that leaves off.

Which size, and does it come with fins?
Up to about 50 kg, the 120. From roughly 41 kg to 59 kg, and especially once they are jumping, the 127. Four P-Wing fins are in the box. Bindings are separate.
