About This Product

2027 Hyperlite Hi-Fi Wakesurfer | The Way Into Skim Style

The 2027 Hyperlite Hi-Fi is the board that gets riders into skim style without the usual punishment. Fast, poppy and easy to spin, built on Hyperlite's exclusive DuraShell Construction over an EPS core with a flat tip and tail base design. It is the most forgiving skim shape in the 2027 line and, at this price, the sensible first step out of a surf-style board.

Key Technical Features

  • DuraShell Construction: Hyperlite's exclusive compression-moulded shell, and the reason this board does not show heel dents. Lightweight and responsive with it.
  • EPS Core: A light, buoyant core. On a skim board that matters more than usual, because float is what keeps a thin shape from bogging on a softer wave.
  • Flat Tip / Tail Base Design: Flat through both ends rather than curved. Speed comes free, the board spins on its own axis, and switch riding feels the same as regular.
  • Fully Machined EVA Traction: Full-length machined traction rather than isolated pads. Skim riding lives on foot placement, and a full deck lets you move mid-trick and still find grip.
  • Fins: .8" P-Wing (3): Three small P-Wing fins. Barely enough hold to track, which is exactly right — a skim board needs the tail to let go on demand.

Why You'll Love It

Hyperlite's SKILL bar runs the Hi-Fi from the beginner end to about halfway, so it is a beginner-to-intermediate skim board. Worth flagging: the dealer book's own paragraph claims it will execute advanced manoeuvres, while its skill graphic stops at the middle of the scale. Both can be true, but if skim is already your thing you will outgrow it. The Push Meter is full at 4/4 and the wave size is rated LRG, so it needs a wake with real shove behind it. Who it isn't for: advanced skim riders, who want the Raven, the Storm or the SoS.

Size Guide

  • 4'5": 10.3 litres · 20.76" wide · riders up to 86 kg
  • 4'8": 11.3 litres · 21.5" wide · riders up to 109 kg

Two sizes. Rocker is 1.75" tip and 0.25" tail on both, about as flat as it gets. The volume figures look small next to a surf-style board because they are — a skim board is thin by design, which is why it takes more balance and rewards it with more speed. There is also a Women's Hi-Fi in the range, one size, tuned mellower.

Quick Answers

What is skim style, in plain terms?
A thinner, flatter, smaller-finned board that slides and spins rather than driving down the line. It takes more balance to ride and gives you far more trick options once you have it. Most riders start surf-style and move across as they progress.

Is the Hi-Fi a genuine first board?
As a first skim board, yes — the most forgiving one Hyperlite makes. As a first wakesurfer full stop, we would still put you on a surf-style shape like the Broadcast or Landlock. Skim is much harder to learn on.

What wave does it need?
It is rated LRG for wave size with a full 4/4 push, so it wants a decent wake behind a properly weighted boat. A skim board makes its own speed but it still needs a face with push in it.

About Hyperlite

Hyperlite changed wakeboarding forever in 1991 when it built the world's first compression-molded wakeboard — and it's driven the sport's innovation ever since, from Biolite cores to the 0-G boot platform.

Today the range spans wakeboards, wakesurfers and boots, built for everyone from first-timers to the pros. It's the brand that wrote the rulebook, and keeps rewriting it.
