The 2027 Hyperlite Gromcast is the Broadcast shape squashed down for kids, with a new look this season. A wide profile gives ample surface area to get up on, and the short outline makes it genuinely manoeuvrable, so groms can learn power carves and spins rather than just standing there. Three removable fins let you change how it rides as they improve.

Key Technical Features

• Biolite 3 Core: Hyperlite's PU foam core wrapped in fibreglass. Light enough for a small rider to handle on the swim step, tough enough to survive being dropped on the dock repeatedly.
• Wide Profile: Surface area is what gets a light rider planing and keeps them there. The Gromcast is deliberately wide for its length, which is why kids get up on it first go far more often.
• Dual Concave Base: Twin channels through the base add speed and stability. On a kids' board that stability is the whole game — it keeps the board tracking while they work out where their weight goes.
• Molded EVA Traction: Cushy full moulded traction, which is more comfortable underfoot than machined pads and much kinder on bare young feet across a long afternoon.
• Fins: 1.5" Fish (2) & 2.4" Fish (1): Three removable fins. Run all three for maximum hold while they are learning, then pull the centre once they want to start spinning.

Hyperlite's SKILL bar runs the Gromcast from the beginner end to about 30%, which is exactly what you want from a kids' board — easy at the start with somewhere to go. The Push Meter reads 3/4 and the wave size is rated MED, so an average weighted wake is enough. Who it isn't for: bigger kids and teenagers. Hyperlite rates it to around 50 kg, and above that the 4'8" Broadcast is the same shape in an adult size. If your wave is small, the Landlock is the range's only 2/4 push board.

One size, 3'9", and the dealer book, Hyperlite's website and the supplier range file all agree on it. Rocker is 2.6" tip and 0.80" tail. Three fins are included, two 1.5" Fish and one 2.4" Fish, so there is nothing else to buy before the first session.

What age or size is it for?
Hyperlite rates the Gromcast to around 50 kg, which covers most kids up to roughly early high school. Past that, move them onto the 4'8" Broadcast — same core, same fins, adult dimensions.

Skim or surf?
Surf-style. Three Fish fins, a dual concave base and a wide, rolled outline all mean it drives and holds rather than sliding. That is the right call for a first board of any age — skim boards are much harder to learn on.

Do I need to buy fins?
No. Three fins come in the box, two 1.5" Fish and one 2.4" Fish. Start with all three in for hold, then pull the centre fin when they want the tail to break loose for spins.
