2027 Hyperlite Buzzmatic Wakesurfer | Surf Style with Volume for Stability
The 2027 Hyperlite Buzzmatic is the surf-style shape that bridges into hybrid territory. DuraShell Construction over an EPS core, a single concave belly running out to a dual concave exit, and a wide blunt outline with a swallow tail that adds stability without killing the speed. It keeps the traditional rounded surf rail of the board it replaces, which is what makes it so easy to trust.
Key Technical Features
- DuraShell Construction: Hyperlite's compression-moulded shell. It resists heel dents and general abuse far better than a hand-laid board.
- Single Concave Belly to Dual Concave Exit: One concave through the middle for drive, splitting into two channels at the tail. The single concave holds your line, the dual exit lets water off cleanly so the tail still pivots.
- Wide Blunt Outline with Swallow Tail: Width where you stand and a swallow at the back. Stability underfoot, and a tail that releases off two points rather than dragging as one.
- Traditional Rounded Surf Rail: Carried over from the previous Buzzmatic. A rounded rail rolls into a turn rather than catching, which is what you want while you are still finding the pocket.
- Fins: 3.5" Torq (2): A twin Torq setup. Enough drive to hold a line down the wave, loose enough that the board still spins when you unweight it.
Why You'll Love It
Hyperlite's SKILL bar runs the Buzzmatic from about a quarter of the way up to near the expert end, so read it as an intermediate-to-advanced board. Worth flagging honestly: the dealer book's headline calls it ideal for all ability levels, but its own skill graphic does not start at the beginner end. The Push Meter reads 3/4 and the wave size is rated MED, so it works on a mid-sized wake. Who it isn't for: complete beginners, who want the Broadcast or the Landlock. Riders chasing hand-built epoxy performance should step up to the Frother or the Moab.
Size Guide
- 4'8": 15.8 litres · 21.25" wide · riders up to 86 kg
Also in the range at 5'0". Hyperlite's own spec table jumps from 4'8" to 5'2", so there is no published volume, width or rider-weight figure for the 5'0" and we will not estimate one. Rocker is 2.72" tip and 0.8" tail. Note the dealer book lists two Torq fins while Hyperlite's website shows a third centre fin as well; we have quoted the dealer book.
Quick Answers
Skim or surf?
Hyperlite calls it a surf-style wakesurfer, and the rounded rail and swallow tail back that up. In practice it is the most crossover-friendly board in the range: enough drive to surf properly, enough release to start playing with spins.
Is it really an all-levels board?
Partly. Hyperlite's headline says all ability levels, but its own skill bar starts about a quarter of the way up the scale. We would call it a confident intermediate's board. A genuine first surfer is the Broadcast or the Landlock.
Buzzmatic or Broadcast?
The Buzzmatic is sharper and faster, with a swallow tail and twin fins. The Broadcast is a three-fin Biolite 3 shape aimed lower on the skill scale. If the whole family rides, Broadcast. If it is mostly you, Buzzmatic.

About Hyperlite
Hyperlite changed wakeboarding forever in 1991 when it built the world's first compression-molded wakeboard — and it's driven the sport's innovation ever since, from Biolite cores to the 0-G boot platform.
Today the range spans wakeboards, wakesurfers and boots, built for everyone from first-timers to the pros. It's the brand that wrote the rulebook, and keeps rewriting it.
