How to Choose the Right Kids' Wetsuit
- Water temperature guide — 1–1.5mm: Warm water (22°C+), summer. 2mm: Mild water (18–22°C), spring/autumn. 3/2mm: Cool water (14–18°C), autumn/winter. 4/3mm: Cold water (below 14°C), winter.
- Seam type — Flatlock seams are comfortable and flexible but not fully waterproof — suited to warmer water. GBS (glued and blind stitched) with internal taping (O'Neill Defender, Quiksilver Prologue) keeps more water out and is warmer — suited to cooler conditions.
- Zipper position — Back zip (BZ) is the most common and easiest for kids to get in and out of. Chest zip (CZ) on the O'Neill Defender keeps more water out but requires more practice to use.
- Sizing — Kids' wetsuits should fit snugly with no excess material — gaps trap cold water and reduce warmth. Check each brand's size chart by height and weight for the best fit.
