Chilli Surfboards is Jamie Cheal’s label, born in a small Brookvale factory after he shaped his first board in 1995. The boards that followed were not all magic — Cheal has always been honest about the early “wet towel” ones — but the ones that worked became some of the most trusted high-performance shortboards in Australia. Andy Irons rode Chillis to a world title. Everyday surfers ride them because they work in ordinary waves, not just in a heat at Snapper.

Welcome Board Store has listed Chilli as one of our surf brands for years. We do not currently have Chilli boards on the floor, but the collection stays here so you can check back when the next lot lands from our Australian warehouse in Mornington, VIC.

What we look for in a Chilli

When we do have them, they sit with the rest of our surfboards — performance shortboards built for Australian beachbreaks, not just a catalogue shot. Cheal’s range has always been about speed and a forgiving rail for surfers who are not on tour.
