Barefoot Water Ski Handles — Front Toe & Backwards Toe | Straightline & Sands
Barefoot water skiing requires specialised toe handles — a standard waterski or wakeboard handle won't work. Barefoot handles are designed with a toe harness that holds your foot in position, allowing you to perform front and backwards tricks without a conventional ski underfoot. Welcome Boardstore stocks barefoot handles from Straightline and Sands in front toe and backwards toe configurations — shipped fast from our Australian warehouse.
Sands Barefoot Handles
Sands barefoot handles are designed and approved by Brett Sands — one of Australia's most respected barefoot water skiers. Built with rubber grips, neoprene toe harnesses, foam floats, and heavy-duty nylon tubing:
- Sands Front Toe Barefoot Handle (2022) — 15" curved bar. 28mm diameter rubber grip. 5ft Spectra Fusion bridle. Neoprene toe hold harness. Heavy-duty nylon tubing. 2 x 9" foam floats. Brett Sands Approved. Designed for front trick barefooting — the curved bar geometry is optimised for front-facing tricks and transitions.
- Sands Backwards Toe Barefoot Handle — 15" bar. 28mm diameter rubber grip. 5ft 60-strand Poly-E bridle. Neoprene toe hold harness. Heavy-duty nylon tubing. 2 x 9" foam floats. Brett Sands Approved. Designed specifically for backwards trick barefooting — the bridle and harness configuration is tuned for riding and performing tricks in the backwards position.
Straightline Barefoot Handles
- Straightline Deluxe Barefoot Front Toe Handle (2025) — 15" bar. 28mm diameter round grip. Front toe harness constructed with 4mm Dyneema for strength and durability. A near-barefooting package for riders progressing into barefoot skiing.
- Straightline STD Barefoot Front Toe Handle (2025) — 15" bar. 28mm handle with PVC endcaps. Poly-E rope bridle (traditional stretch and feel). Standard barefoot handle configuration for training and long-line use. The entry-level option for riders learning barefoot technique.
Front Toe vs. Backwards Toe — Which Do You Need?
- Front Toe Handle — Used for forward-facing barefoot skiing and front tricks. The most common starting point for barefoot riders. Both Straightline handles and the Sands Front Toe are front toe configuration.
- Backwards Toe Handle — Used specifically for backwards barefoot skiing and backwards tricks. The Sands Backwards Toe handle is purpose-built for this discipline — the bridle angle and harness position are optimised for riding in reverse.
Bridle Types
- Spectra Fusion bridle (Sands Front Toe) — High-strength, low-stretch Spectra for a direct, responsive connection to the boat.
- Poly-E bridle (Sands Backwards Toe, Straightline STD) — Traditional poly-ethylene rope with a slight stretch for a more forgiving feel — suited to training and long-line use.
- Dyneema (Straightline Deluxe) — 4mm Dyneema harness construction for maximum strength at minimum weight.
