Snow Ski Shop Melbourne — Welcome Boardstore, Mornington

Looking for a snow ski shop in Melbourne that actually fits boots, tunes skis and knows the difference between a Hotham groomer and a Hakuba powder day? Welcome Boardstore is on the Mornington Peninsula, about an hour down the freeway from the city, and it's where a lot of Melbourne's skiers end up once they've had enough of buying boots off a wall.

Where we are

The shop is at 207 Mornington-Tyabb Road, Mornington VIC 3931. Phone (03) 9781 4733. We moved to Mornington in 2024; the old Frankston shop on Nepean Highway is closed, so if you've got that address saved, update it.

Can't get down? Everything's online at welcomeboardstore.com.au, with free shipping Australia-wide on orders over $99.

Thirty years of snow, one family

Welcome Boardstore grew out of the ski shop Chris's parents ran in Frankston for thirty years. Chris and Anna took it over, rebranded it under their own name and moved it to the Peninsula. Chris's dad still runs the workshop — he's a qualified craftsman, and customers drive over an hour for his tune work. Between the staff we've done seasons in Japan, Canada, Europe and the US, and we're on snow every Australian winter.

Snow skis — who we stock

We keep a tight, considered range rather than a wall of everything: Rossignol, Head, K2, Salomon, Faction, Elan and Candide, from first-season all-mountain skis through to powder and freeride shapes for your next Japan trip. We'll tell you plainly which ski suits your level and the terrain you actually ride — and which one doesn't.

Ski boot fitting — the bit that matters

Every ski boot we sell is fitted in-store. Shell size, last width, flex and liner are matched to your foot and how you ski, and the fitting is included with the boot. If you need more support, we make custom footbeds in-house, and stock slip-in footbeds from Sidas and others. Brands on the boot wall include Lange, Salomon, Head and Rossignol. Bring your ski socks.

Workshop — tunes, waxes and repairs

Edge and base tunes, hot waxes and repairs, done in Mornington by the person who's been doing it for three decades. Book ahead of the June long weekend and before you fly out for Japan; the workshop fills up both times.

Everything else for the mountain

Bindings, poles, goggles, gloves and mitts, jackets, pants, bibs, socks, ski bags and snow chains. We also do snowboards properly, plus surf, wake and skate.

When to come in

The Australian season runs June to early October, and our pre-season sale starts in May. From November through February we're kitting out Japan, Canada and Europe trips — that's the best time to get a boot fit sorted with no queue. Check the snow sale at the end of each window for last-season gear at a fair price.

Drop in, or ring the shop on (03) 9781 4733 and we'll sort you out. For more snow tips and gear deep-dives, have a look through The Welcome Journal.
